Auld covered up. Ed Jovanovski had a shot and Jarkko Ruutu was tackled by

on Auld. Auld was slightly out of position but made the save. Then, a
Vancouver chance with Rucinsky to Sopel to Keane towards the Calgary net.
Ed Jovanovski made a good defensive play on Shean Donovan as Jovo put his
stick into play and took Donovan off the puck while he was going to the
Canucks net. The 2nd Period continued with lots of icing the puck both
ways as of half way into the period. Craig Conroy received a penalty
for hitting Brent Sopel from behind. On the Canucks powerplay, Ed
Jovanovski shot the puck on net after getting a pass from Brendan Morrison
from behind the net. The shot may have been blocked or stopped by
Kiprusoff. Daniel Sedin was stopped as the twins played give and go.
Conroy came out of the box as the penalty expired and made a beauty backhand
pass to Jarome Iginla who made it 1-0 for Calgary at 12:50 of the 2nd.

Naslund and Ed Jovanovski at 7:32 of the 3rd. Matt Cooke received a
costly double minor as Andrew Ference came in and hit Cooke from behind,
forcing his stick high on Rhett Warrener. Calgary took the lead at 2-1 on
a powerplay goal by Jarome Iginla. Jarome Iginla continued his effort as
he made a great move while Sami Salo tried to defend. Marcus Nilson and
Jordan Leopold had a 2 on 1 and Alex Auld made the save. The Canucks had
good pressure in the last 4 minutes of the 3rd Period. Andrew Ference
received a penalty for slashing on Henrik Sedin after his stick broke on

taking the draw in the Calgary zone. The puck was not kept in the
zone. The Canucks got the puck again and Alex Auld came out for the extra
attacker while Trevor Linden was on the ice. The Canucks called a time

The Game started out with some early
pressure by the Canucks only 16 seconds into the Game when Matt Cooke went
to the net and provided the screen as Mattias Ohlund took a shot on
Miikka Kiprusoff. An early penalty was called as Brad May was called for
Goalie Interference at 0:44 into the 1st Period. Ohlund was good at clearing
the puck on the penalty kill. Mike Commodore got aggressive on Brad May in
front of the Calgary net and received a Crosschecking Penalty about 4
minutes into the period. Markus Naslund had a shot on the powerplay, as
did Mattias Ohlund while Daniel Sedin and Geoff Sanderson went to the
net. Kryzsztof Oliwa took a Charging Penalty after a big hit from behind
as Artem Chubarov went crashing into the boards. On the powerplay,
Sami Salo had a shot on Kiprusoff as Naslund arrived late to the net.
Denis Gauthier had a big hit on Martin Rucinsky. With under 3 minutes to go in the 1st Period, Trevor Linden went to
the net with Brad May with
Matt Cooke to Sami Salo who had a long range shot on Kiprusoff. Jarkko
Ruutu made a nice play with the Sedins around the Calgary net to score at
18:01 of the 1st, assisted by Daniel and Henrik Sedin. Linden took a high
stick and Craig Conroy went to the penalty box with 1:18 to go in the 1st.
Geoff Sanderson took a shot and hit the side of the net near the end of the
period on the powerplay. The Canucks territorially dominated in the
opening period and their powerplays also helped them. Starting the 2nd
Period, Ed Jovanovski was skating with Markus Naslund trying to get another
Goal. The penalty expired and going the other way, Chris Clark made a
nice drop pass to Craig Conroy who got a shot a Alex Auld. Matt Cooke
and Geoff Sanderson had a 2 on 1 as they skated towards Miikka Kiprosoff's
net and Cooke got a good shot on Goal. Markus Naslund did some good
work behind the net to get a pass to Martin Rucinsky, resulting in a shot
on Goal and Kiprusoff making the save. Daniel Sedin made a nice play with
a curl and drag and a perfect short side shot over the top of Kiprusoff's
right shoulder, with his brother Henrik drawing the assist at 5:32 of the
2nd. The Canucks scored again only 70 seconds later as the pass went to
Brad May and he put the puck past Kiprusoff on a wrist shot stick side.
A speedy Geoff Sanderson made it 4-0 for the Canucks from Ohlund and Naslund
as Sanderson's quick release beat Kiprusoff to the far side going under his
glove and into the net. The Flames had the next goal come under a lengthy
video review as it looked like the puck may have been knocked into the
Canucks net by a high stick. The decision was ruled inconclusive and Oleg
Saprykin was credited with the Calgary Goal. The Flames were gradually
mounting their come back in the Game as Ville Nieminen got the puck after
Mattias Ohlund missed it and Sami Salo was trying to defend with no
stick. Nieminen got the Goal with Commodore assisting. Matt Cooke
had a break, streaking to the net and getting another shot on Kiprusoff.
Martin Rucinsky took a high sticking penalty after his stick came up high but
didn't really make contact on Jordan Leopold. Calgary went on the
powerplay but the Canucks kept them to no shots on goal with the
man-advantage. With 5/10 of a second left in the 2nd Period, Martin
Rucinsky went to the Calgary net, the net became dislodged and his shot
went sliding into Kiprusoff. In the first minute of the 3rd Period, a point shot went to Marting Gelinas who was in front
of the Canucks net and Alex Auld made a good save on the redirect. At
1:14 of the 3rd, Chris Clark shot the puck with Gelinas near the net on
what looked like a redirect through Alex Auld's legs. Robyn Regehr got
the assist. With around 10 minutes to go in the 3rd, Cooke, Naslund and
Morrison created a scoring chance but Kiprusoff made the save. Linden
skated with Daniel Sedin who tried to put the moves on Kiprusoff. The
Flames came back to tie the Game at 4-4 at 12:56 of the 3rd after the puck battle was won
by Martin Gelinas and Chris Clark put the puck in past Auld after Regehr's
shot was deflected. Matt
Cooke had another shot on Kiprusoff, while Stephane Yelle took a bad angle
shot on Auld. In the 1st Overtime, Shean Donovan tried a backhand on a
wrap around attempt but Alex Auld made the save with his paddle down.
Henrik Sedin and Trevor Linden had another chance with around 4 minutes to
go in the 1st OT. With 35 seconds to go in the period, Ohlund pulled down
Donovan by the sweater and received a penalty. After the face off in the
Vancouver zone, Ed Jovanovski had a big hit on Oleg Saprykin. The 2nd
Overtime started and after Ohlund's penalty expired, Martin Gelinas had a
breakaway but was stopped by Goalie Alex Auld. Ville Nieminen hit the
post with around 11:00 to go in the 2nd OT. Stephane Yelle had a big shot
on Alex Auld, with a bigger save by Auld. Trevor Linden won a defensive
draw in the Canucks zone with around 7 minutes to go in the period.
Kiprusoff saw some fast and furious action around his net as the Canucks
tried to score. Linden faced off against Yelle in the Canucks zone, but
this time, Yelle won the draw. The Canucks cleared the puck with help
from Rucinsky and Chubarov. The Game Winner came on a terrific individual
effort in the 103rd minute of play when Brendan Morrison beat his check
and tucked the puck in the net as Kiprusoff was on his belly.
Markus Naslund drew the assist.
The Canucks tied the Series against
the Flames tonight. It was the Canucks longest Playoff Game to date.

Calgary continued playing their
'crash the net' style this game in their playoff series with Vancouver. Brendan
Morrison received a penalty for tripping Martin Gelinas at 4:12 of the 1st
Period. The Flames went on the powerplay, and Jordan Leopold was stopped
by Goalie Alex Auld. The Canucks had a 5 on 4 powerplay late in the 1st
Period as Goalie Miikka Kiprusoff made a huge reaction save down low
on a push with his left skate and over to make the save on Geoff Sanderson.
Tyler Bouck was skating tonight as a high energy player on the forecheck.
Cooke, Morrison and Naslund may some nifty plays together. Shean Donovan
wrestled down Brent Sopel drawing a penalty with around 5 minutes to go in
the 1st. Sopel then shot a one-timer right on net with Kiprusoff making
the save. Calgary was on the powerplay in the last minute of the 1st and
Craig Conroy crashed the Canucks net. The end of the 1st Period had some
rough stuff as Martin Rucinsky knocked Stephane Yelle into the Canucks
bench with a little help from Jarkko Ruutu, who received a double minor
penalty for roughing, with Chris Clark and Mike Commodore coming in and
receiving 2 minutes each for roughing. Later after another Calgary
penalty and while Vancouver was on the powerplay, Ed Jovanovski shot the puck as
Martin Rucinsky redirected the shot into the chest and off the glove of
Kiprusoff. The Flames penalty expired and Martin Gelinas came back on.
Geoff Sanderson then received an Interference penalty and it was the Flames'
turn for another powerplay. Craig Conroy scored after Alex Auld stopped
the puck with the end of his glove, but overplayed the shot as Conroy had
the wide open net. Commodore and Iginla drew the assists. Back on the
5 on 5, Chuck Kobasew had a shot kicked out by Alex Auld. Calgary had a
close call as Denis Gauthier went diving into his bench to avoid a
Too-Many-Men on the ice Penalty. Brendan Morrison took a good shot from a
bad angle with a nice save made by Kiprusoff with around 9:00 to go in the 2nd
Period. The Canucks had some good puck pressure down low as Ed Jovanovski
shot the puck and Kiprusoff made the save, then a tip by Daniel Sedin with
Trevor Linden around the net, and Kiprusoff making another save off
Henrik Sedin. Ed Jovanovski and Geoff Sanderson skated together as
Sanderson made a drop pass to Jovanovski who got a good shot on net.
Chris Clark took a penalty for slashing Linden. Jovanovski had another
chance going to the net. The Canucks tied the Game at 16:19 of the 2nd after Sami Salo shot
the puck from the point and the puck went past Daniel Sedin, off Henrik Sedin's shoulder
and into the net while both Sedin's were standing in front of the Calgary net.
In the last 20 seconds of the 2nd, Daniel Sedin had a hot shot go high and
wide. Early into the 3rd Period, Brendan Morrison wins a draw with the
puck going to Markus Naslund who had a good chance with his quick
release. The Flames 'crashed the net' again as Andrew Ference had his
shot deflected by Jarome Iginla as Martin Gelinas was in the goal crease,
who was bumped
by Mattias Ohlund and Alex Auld got pushed. The net came off the post and back down again as the puck was going in
resulting in a video review. It was ruled a Goal for Calgary at 5:37
of the 3rd. Ed Jovanovski combined his offensive play with his physical play
tonight as he had a huge hit
on Shean Donovan. Markus Naslund had another shot stopped by Miikka
Kiprusoff as the puck was stopped under his pad. Jovanovski tipped the
puck wide and had another shot deflected wide by Matt Cooke. With 1:35 to
go in the Game, Calgary found themselves icing the puck. Alex Auld came
out of his net for the extra attacker in the final minute of play. Ed
Jovanovski had one final shot on Goal with under 10 seconds left in the
Game, but the Flames hung on for the win after having only 2 shots on
Goal in the 3rd Period, while the Canucks had 12 shots in the 3rd, but
were unable to beat Kiprusoff to tie it.

The Calgary Flames returned to play
Game 3 against the Canucks to a loud and enthusiastic crowd in Calgary, competing in the Stanley Cup Playoffs for their first
home playoff game in nearly 8 years. The fans were into it and as both teams
were raring to go, the Flames were called for icing the puck only 8
seconds into the Game. Ville Nieminen tried a wrap around attempt on Dan
Cloutier, and going the other way Brendan Morrison went streaking to the
net, was hauled down on a diving defensive play by Denis Gauthier, and Miikaa
Kiprusoff kept the puck out. The Flames started storming Dan Cloutier's net
as he made some acrobatic sprawling saves off Chris Simon and Craig
Conroy off the post with about 4 minutes to go in the 1st Period. Conroy
hit another post off the short side with about 2 minutes to go in the
period, and after Cloutier made another save off Oleg Saprykin,
Cloutier appeared to have injured himself, leaving the game with 29.2
seconds left to play in the 1st Period. Goalie Johan Hedberg then stepped
in to take Dan Cloutier's place. Hedberg made back to back saves off Oleg
Saprykin starting the 2nd. Calgary found themselves scoring a Goal
early in the 2nd Period with good puck pressure as Chris Simon was set up
by Matthew Lombardi and Jarome Iginla as the Canucks started to leave
their own zone, creating a 2 on 0 for the Flames. At the other end, Miikka
Kiprusoff made a huge save on Naslund as Morrison gave him a nice backhand
pass. Matthew Lombardi received a penalty but the Flames had a short
handed chance as Ville Nieminen got a shot away on Hedberg as he skated
towards the net with Marcus Nilson. Only 66 seconds after the Calgary
Goal, Markus Naslund made it 1-1 on the powerplay on a give and go with
Ed Jovanovski at 2:10 of the 2nd. After Martin Rucinsky received a high
sticking penalty, Trevor Linden and Jarkko Ruutu came out on the penalty
kill. Linden and Morrison raced towards the Calgary net with Linden
getting a
short handed shot while Morrison looked for the rebound to come to him.
Jarome Iginla had a chance to score but was hooked by Naslund just in time
to prevent a goal. This created a 4 on 4 as both teams were serving time
for penalties. Trevor Linden proceeded to win another face off, and a
Sami Salo blast was stopped by Kiprusoff. Starting the 3rd Period with
the Canucks hard work down low, Matt Cooke came fresh off the bench on a
change pushing himself through to the net after he received a nice pass
from Morrison, and scored what turned out to be the Game Winning Goal for
the Canucks at 1:29 of the 3rd. The Canucks continued their offensive
efforts as Daniel and Henrik Sedin worked hard at keeping the puck in
along the boards in the Calgary zone. With around 13 minutes to go in the
3rd, Chris Simon was left all alone in front of Hedberg but he fanned on
the shot. Hedberg made the save on a long shot with his glove behind his
stick, as his stick broke making the save. The Canucks then iced the puck
for a stop in play. With 8:44 to go in the 3rd, there was traffic in
front of the Vancouver net with a pile up in front as Mattias Ohlund fell on Chris
Simon and Hedberg kept the puck out. As Brad May skated into the Calgary
zone, on an outside in move, he lost an edge, crashed the net, and cut
his face going into the goal post. Brendan Morrison received a penalty
for holding Jarome Iginla and the Flames went on the powerplay with
around 5 minutes to go in the Game. Johan Hedberg made another good save
on a redirected shot by Jarome Iginla. Going the other way, Sami Salo
found himself skating with Artem Chubarov as Salo got a short handed shot
on Goal. Then a pile up in the Canucks goal crease resulted in Chris
Simon roughing things up with Jarkko Ruutu and each getting penalties.
The Flames were on the powerplay with 2 shots on Goal before Morrison came
back on. After the penalties were over, Vancouver took an icing call as
time was winding down. Linden won another key face off near the
circle by Hedberg. With about a minute to go in the 3rd, Kiprusoff went
to the bench for the extra attacker. The puck went out of play with the
face off going into the Canucks zone to the right of Hedberg. Calgary
called their time out to plan the play. Matthew Lombardi was facing off
against Trevor Linden as Linden won the draw. Things got physical as
Jarome Iginla took exception to Mattias Ohlund's hit from behind on him
and they started to fight. The Canucks had two attempts at the empty net,
and with 11.4 seconds left on a 4 on 4 with the face off in the Calgary
zone, the Canucks skated to tally a 2-1 win.
Goalies: Dan Cloutier made 11 Saves. Johan

Lots of chances for both teams,
starting the Game around 2 minutes in with a Naslund tip by the post off Kiprusoff. Henrik Sedin was blocked by Matthew Lombardi. From behind
the net, Jordan Leopold passed to Jarome Iginla, Dan Cloutier was bumped
and the puck seemed to go into the net off Brent Sopel. Only 50 seconds
later, Matthew Lombardi beat Dan Cloutier after Calgary won the face off,
putting the Flames ahead by 2-0 in the 1st Period. The Canucks performed
well on the penalty kill as Mike Keane split the Flames defense and sent
the puck the other way down the ice as the Flames tried to apply the
pressure. Marcus Nilson received a penalty for hooking, then Ville
Nieminen knocked off Cloutier's net and received a penalty for it giving
Vancouver a 5 on 3 powerplay for 56 seconds. Trevor Linden did well
winning face offs, but as he took another draw, his stick came up high
and he received a penalty for high sticking. Vancouver was on the 5 on 4
powerplay when Ed Jovanovski stood near the net by Miikka Kiprusoff, who
seemed to stumble as Markus Naslund shot the puck into the net past him.
Sami Salo skated well beating out an icing call on a race into the Canucks
zone against Chuck Kobasew. Geoff Sanderson fired a shot right into the
glove of Kiprusoff as he made a good save. Mattias Ohlund and Jarome
Iginla matched up tonight against each other. Ed Jovanovski played well
on defense and with his physical play. With 3:57 to go in the 2nd Period,
Toni Lydman was stopped by Cloutier who made a good save. Chris Simon
took a dive and Mattias Ohlund got called for tripping creating a 4 on 4.
Martin Rucinsky had a 2 on 1 with Brent Sopel develop but the play was
broken up. Going the other way, Jordan Leopold was stopped on a back
hander against Cloutier. About 2 minutes into the 3rd Period, Cloutier
stopped Ville Nieminen as he fired another shot, then he made a big glove save
off Oleg Saprykin, keeping the Canucks in the game. The Canucks were good
with puck pressure from Geoff Sanderson to Marek Malik, but were stopped again
by Kiprusoff with around 11 minutes to go in the game. Mike Keane and
Trevor Linden tried to keep the puck in along the boards behind the Flames
net but they got knocked around by Robyn Regehr and were taken off the
puck as the Flames put up a good defensive effort tonight. Matt Cooke
and Brendan Morrison tried to create some more offense but were stopped at
the Calgary net. As Mattias Ohlund was about to receive a holding
penalty, Marcus Nilson got a scoring chance but Cloutier came up with a
huge save. Calgary went on the powerplay again. Jarome Iginla had
another chance as he hit the post with his shot but the puck stayed out. Vancouver wound up having two short handed chances.
Brent Sopel stole the puck and Martin Rucinsky was stopped by Kiprusoff with
his right pad. With around 5 minutes to go, Brendan Morrison won the draw
cleanly on the face off creating a give and go with Markus Naslund but
the puck stayed out. With about 3 minutes to go in the 3rd Period, Toni
Lydman got his stick up high on Geoff Sanderson, giving Vancouver a
powerplay and a chance to tie the game with time running down and a face
off in the Calgary zone. From behind the net, Naslund centered the puck
to Rucinsky as Calgary defended. As the penalty was almost over and the
face off was in the Calgary zone again, Cloutier came out of his net for
the extra attacker, and Sopel shot the puck after he received a nice pass
from Ohlund. The Canucks applied the pressure around the Flames net until
the end but could not score the equalizer in the last few seconds of the game.
