3rd Period: Vancouver Goal Mattias Ohlund (assists Markus Naslund, Henrik Sedin) 15:55 of the 3rd

A physical Game with lots of chances but no scoring in the 1st Period.
A bad clearing attempt by Goalie Chris Osgood
resulted in an unassisted Goal by Artem Chubarov in the 2nd Period for the Canucks.
Chris Pronger took a roughing penalty in the 3rd Period
resulting in a powerplay Goal for Vancouver by Mattias Ohlund, assisted by Markus Naslund and Henrik Sedin.
Bryan Allen knocked over Goalie Johan Hedberg's net with 3.4 seconds left in the Game
giving Pavol Demitra a penalty shot.  Johan Hedberg stopped Demitra's shot, preserving his Shutout.
Hedberg had his 9th Career Shutout and 2nd Shutout of the Season tonight.

It was defenseman night for the Canucks tonight.
The Sharks put up a fight to score twice and take the lead early in the 3rd Period as the Canucks tried to defend.
Two Canucks who play on Defense Positions scored the Goals for Vancouver.
Brent Sopel had a good night scoring 2 Goals, including the Game winning Goal,
and also had an assist on Mattias Ohlund's Goal.
Markus Naslund came back to play this evening with an assist
after recovering from a concussion sustained in the February 16th Game.
Naslund took a shot on Goalie Vesa Toskala in Overtime and had the rebound
go to Brent Sopel who put the puck in the net for the win
after San Jose took a Too-Many-Men on the ice penalty.

What a wonderful night for Daniel Sedin scoring his first NHL Hat-trick
and an empty net Goal near the end of the Game to score 4 Goals tonight for the Canucks.
Todd Bertuzzi buzzed around the Red Wings net and helped create scoring chances for Vancouver.
Marek Malik and Nolan Baumgartner were both in on assisting with two of Daniel Sedin's Goals.
Chris Chelios left the Game in the 2nd Period with a bruised shoulder after Bertuzzi was bumped
and fell into Chelios who was in an awkward position.
Dan Cloutier was solid in net allowing only two Goals with
Henrik Zetterberg and Kris Draper scoring for Detroit.

Tyler Bouck and Steve Staios got into a fight in the first minute of the Game.
The first two Goals of the Game came 17 seconds apart by Fernando Pisani for the Oilers
and Marek Malik with his 2nd Goal of the season for the Canucks.
Fedor Fedorov, Daniel Sedin, Henrik Sedin, Todd Bertuzzi and Artem Chubarov
were strong tonight with Dan Cloutier making some acrobatic saves
including a great save on Shawn Horcoff in the 2nd Period.
Edmonton tied the Game in the 3rd Period, and with less than a minute left in regulation time
Jarkko Ruutu took a holding the stick penalty as he grabbed Eric Brewer's stick.
The Canucks had a good penalty kill and survived the 4 on 3 Edmonton powerplay as the penalty carried over into Overtime.
Ryan Smyth celebrated his 28th Birthday tonight with a total of 3 assists including one
on the Game winning Goal by Eric Brewer for Edmonton.

The Minnesota Wild seemed to have their way with the Canucks tonight.
After the first Wild Goal, Antti Laaksonen was awarded a penalty shot after being taken down
by Marek Malik on a short handed break away.  Laaksonen was able to beat Cloutier on the shot putting the Wild ahead 2-0.
By the end of the 1st Period, Minnesota was ahead 3-0.
Todd Bertuzzi scored in the 2nd Period assisted by Henrik Sedin and Daniel Sedin.
Goalie Dan Cloutier started the first 2 Periods but was replaced with Johan Hedberg after the 4th Wild Goal.
Minnesota put in two more Goals after the goaltender change.  Marc Chouinard scored twice tonight,
with other Goals and assists by Laaksonen, Gaborik, Brunette
and Alex Henry who got his 1st NHL Goal against Johan Hedberg.
Mattias Ohlund scored assisted by Brendan Morrison towards the end of the 3rd Period.
Vancouver found themselves playing in a catch up Game tonight against a good Minnesota team.


February 16th - Game Day ReCap
Goalie: David Aebischer for Colorado Avalanche
Goalie: Dan Cloutier for Vancouver Canucks
1st Period: NO Scoring
2nd Period: NO Scoring
3rd Period: Vancouver Goal Daniel Sedin (unassisted) 2:09 of the 3rd
FINAL: Vancouver 1 - Colorado 0
Shots on Goal: Colorado 22 - Vancouver 21

The positive thing about this Game was that the Canucks beat Colorado, in regulation time.
The only Goal in the Game came after Todd Bertuzzi took out Karlis Skrastins and Derek Morris behind the net
creating the chance for Daniel Sedin who put the puck in the net behind Goalie David Aebischer.
The hard working Canucks suffered a blow to the team after a nasty hit by Avalanche rookie Steve Moore
sending Markus Naslund to the ice with a head injury.  Moore claims he was just finishing his check
and there was no penalty call on the play from the so called "officials".

Anaheim Goal Petr Schastlivy (assists Sergei Fedorov, Kurt Sauer) 12:50 of the 3rd

Both teams poured it on in a playoff style Game.
The first Goal came by the Anaheim Mighty Ducks.
Artem Chubarov scored with the help of Tyler Bouck and Bryan Allen.
Anaheim pulled ahead 2-1 and Sergei Fedorov had his 1000th Career Point tonight.

Well played through the 1st Period, the Canucks shots on Goal were Vancouver 13 - Atlanta 1.
Jarkko Ruutu was hauled down on a short handed breakaway and was awarded a penalty shot
only to be stopped by Goalie Pasi Nurminen who kept the Thrashers in the game with some good saves tonight.
After the 1st Period, the game seemed to turn around with Atlanta coming on strong.
Some penalty action in the last minute of the Game with major penalties going to Ronald Petrovicky, Bryan Allen, and Dan Cloutier.

A competitive game to the end.  Two Vancouver Goals scored in the 1st Period,
and getting feisty with a Brad May and Steve Montador fight shortly after.
Both Goalies Dan Cloutier and Roman Turek made some great saves.
Dan Cloutier stopped Martin Gelinas as he tried to score for Calgary tonight.
The Flames came back to score and take a 3-2 lead early in the 3rd Period.
Calgary took a 2 minute penalty late in the 3rd Period to give Vancouver a Power Play.
Brendan Morrison was set up to make what looked to be a sure goal but was robbed by Goalie Roman Turek.
The Canucks pulled their Goalie for the extra attacker and applied the pressure
until time ran out but the Flames managed to hang on for the win.

The Canucks team effort tonight can be summed up in one word:
"wow".
Canucks Head Coach Marc Crawford and every Canuck fan has got to be pleased with their performance tonight.
Highlights include Goals by Henrik Sedin, Daniel Sedin, Brendan Morrison and Trevor Linden's Goal as he
tied Stan Smyl at 673 points as the all time leader in Canucks points.
Goalie Dan Cloutier had his 13th Career Shutout.

A mix of Goals and Assists by Canucks newcomers, Canucks with us a while, and ex-Canucks.
Canucks newcomers Wade Brookbank and Martin Grenier both scored tonight.
Wade Brookbank scored his 2nd Goal of the Season assisted by Daniel Sedin,
and Martin Grenier scored his 1st Goal with assists going to
Trevor Linden and Tyler Bouck, who has been skating on the team lately.
This time, it was the New York Islanders who staged a comeback in the Game.
After being down 3-1 in the 3rd Period as Vancouver was trying to protect their lead,
The NY Islanders scored 3 quick late 3rd Period Goals to take a 4-3 lead.
Henrik Sedin, Daniel Sedin and Todd Bertuzzi combined to score tonight and were in on the Game tying Goal at 4-4.
Trevor Linden tried to lift Janne Niinimaa's stick and in doing so received a 4 minute penalty on the play
as his stick came up high on Niinimaa in the last minute of the 3rd Period.
The Canucks hung on for a tie sending the Game to Overtime but were scored on during the 4 on 3 Islander Power Play.
The Game winning NY Islander Goal came by a former Canuck Adrian Aucoin,
assisted by a former Canuck Cliff Ronning and by Trent Hunter.

Vancouver and New York scored in the 1st Period.
Brad May and Dale Purinton got into a fight in the 2nd Period,
and Cloutier made some great saves including one off Jan Hlavac shortly after the fight.
Morrison, Naslund, Bertuzzi and Sopel staged another 3rd Period comeback to tie the Game at 3-3
but a Vancouver giveaway in front of Goalie Dan Cloutier resulted in the Game winning Goal for the NY Rangers.
