Geoff Sanderson got the Game off to a good start for the Canucks early in the 1st Period.
Jason King tried to score on a deflection as he put the puck over the crossbar over Martin Gerber.
There was no scoring in the 1st Period.
The Canucks got scored on as Ruslan Salei fired a shot towards the net going wide and deflecting
off Sami Salo and into the net at 2:38 of the 2nd Period.
A few minutes later, Matt Cooke made a nice pass to Brendan Morrison
who got the puck to Markus Naslund as he scored his 34th Goal of the Year
by a deke on the backhand putting the puck in the air past Gerber.
Anaheim took a penalty for hooking giving Vancouver a powerplay opportunity.
The Canucks applied the pressure as Ed Jovanovski shot the puck and
Martin Rucinsky tried to score on the rebound.
They lost control of the puck and Niclas Havelid had a short handed shot on Goal stopped by Cloutier.
Naslund had a chance as he stole the puck and tried a wrap around with around 9 minutes to go in the 2nd.
Cooke, Morrison and Naslund played well together tonight creating chances.
Martin Rucinsky had another shot on Gerber who made a nice save.
Cooke made a pass to Naslund but he was brought down and sent into the net by Sergei Fedorov.
Sanderson, Daniel and Henrik Sedin were good around the net in the last minute of the 2nd.
Naslund and Morrison also applied the pressure before the period was over.
Both teams battled back and forth as they tried to break the tie in the 3rd.
The Ducks almost scored on a 150 foot screen shot by Martin Skoula
but Cloutier managed to make the save.
With time running down, Morrison got a face off win in the Ducks zone with the puck going to Sami Salo
who shot the puck as Cooke screened the net beating Gerber on a slapshot glove side
under the bar with 20.3 seconds left to go in regulation time.

The Canucks proved tonight that one of the secrets to success is to shoot the puck.
Goalie Brian Boucher made some great saves for Phoenix as he was peppered with shots.
The Canucks were shooting the puck with the first period shots 16-5
in their favour but there was no scoring in the 1st.
Around two minutes into the 2nd Period, Markus Naslund had a great chance on a wrist shot
then trying a wrap around on Boucher after he got the puck back.
Geoff Sanderson flew in towards the Phoenix net and got a shot on Boucher who made the glove save.
At the other end, Mattias Ohlund bumped Daniel Cleary into the net behind Dan Cloutier
having the puck go into the net with Cleary.
The Goal went under video review to determine the obvious no goal.
Chubarov, Linden and Ohlund tried to make things happen for Brent Sopel as he hit the post.
Matt Cooke opened the scoring on a give-and-go between Naslund and Morrison,
Morrison back to Naslund then to Cooke for his 10th Goal of the Year.
Marc Bergevin took a shot that was almost deflected into the Phoenix net by Cooke,
who was quite active in the play tonight.
Marc Bergevin and Sami Salo helped Markus Naslund as he made a great effort skating through the defense,
shooting the puck falling down and beating Boucher glove side.
Just 27 seconds later, Sanderson and Salo assisted on Daniel Sedin's 18th Goal of the Year
resulting in the Coyotes calling a time-out.
Sopel kept shooting the puck, this time creating a rebound chance for Trevor Linden and Ryan Kesler
with around 7 minutes to go in the 2nd.
Sopel then got a nice pass from Sanderson to score his 10th Goal of the Year at 19:00 of the 2nd.
Around 5 minutes into the 3rd, Naslund made a nice lead pass to Cooke
just out of his reach but he skated to beat out the icing call.
Morrison joined in the play with Cooke and the puck was centered for Naslund but the puck stayed out.
Sanderson, Daniel and Henrik Sedin were good cycling the puck tonight.
Tyler Bouck attempted a wrap around as Kesler waited in front of the net.
Jason King was back in the Canucks line up tonight as he made a nice pass to Martin Rucinsky
who was stopped on a great chance on the backhand.
Geoff Sanderson shot the puck towards Brian Boucher and as Boucher bobbled the puck,
the whistle was blown and Daniel Sedin put the puck in the net with around 12 minutes to go.  It was no goal.
The Canucks had a 3 on 1 against Radoslav Suchy with King, Rucinsky and Chubarov.
King and Rucinsky drew the assists as Chubarov scored his 10th Goal of the Year at 10:09 of the 3rd.
Tyler Bouck got into his second fight of the year with Brad Ference as they drew penalties for 5:00 each.
Jason King showed he has what it takes to score on a beauty backhand between his legs with his back to the net,
and past Boucher for his 12th Goal of the Year with assists by Ryan Kesler and Trevor Linden.
With under 3 minutes left to go in the 3rd, Ivan Novoseltsev managed to get the puck past Dan Cloutier,
who made some good saves but wasn't tested much in the game.

It was Dan Cloutier's 30th Win of the Season for the Canucks.

Determined from the get-go, the Canucks tried to score early on about 3 minutes into the Game
with Markus Naslund and Ryan Kesler creating scoring chances.
Brad May received an Interference penalty while the Canucks did a good job defending
as the Stars had no shots on Goal during their powerplay.
Dallas scored first though, as Mike Modano hit the post with the shot going to
Philippe Boucher who got the puck to Rob DiMaio then to Brenden Morrow
who puck the puck in after the play was set up from behind the net.
Marek Malik set up Daniel Sedin at 18:30 of the 1st as Malik shot and
D. Sedin put the puck in the net for his 17th Goal of the Year.
Pierre Turgeon scored the only 2nd Period Goal for Dallas early into the period on a Vancouver turnover.
The Canucks continued to apply the pressure, with Daniel Sedin and Martin Rucinsky putting on the moves.
Mattias Ohlund dished out some body checks including one on Blake Sloan.
Steve Ott served a penalty for Interference on Goalie Dan Cloutier as he got knocked around a bit.
Later, with good Canucks pressure around the Dallas net,
Richard Matvichuk cross-checked Brendan Morrison into the net
giving Vancouver another powerplay opportunity.
Martin Rucinsky had a good shot stopped by Goalie Ron Tugnutt
and Markus Naslund also had a good chance to score.
The Vancouver powerplay carried over into the 3rd Period but they were unable to capitalize.
Trevor Linden, Ryan Kesler and Matt Cooke tried to score but the play was stopped by Tugnutt.
Dallas had a 3 on 1 chance as Cloutier made a great save on DiMaio.
Naslund, Sopel, Rucinsky, Ohlund and Kesler contributed with more scoring opportunities for the Canucks.
Brent Sopel made a nice pass to Geoff Sanderson at around the Canuck blue line as he
skated towards the other end to the net and beat Ron Tugnutt on a shot that went over his blocker.
Blake Sloan fired a hot shot at Cloutier in the last minute of the 3rd.
The Game stayed tied at 2-2 in the 3rd sending it to Overtime.
Brendan Morrison made a great effort as he gained the zone with nobody checking him,
beating Goalie Ron Tugnutt with a wrist shot going 5-hole on an Unassisted Goal at 0:40 of OT.

Brendan Morrison leads the Canucks with 6 OT Goals.
The Canucks had their 11th OT Win of the Season tonight.


March 24th - Game Day ReCap

The Canucks scored only one Goal in the Game tonight but dominated the play over the Kings.
The Goal came after Markus Naslund passed to Marek Malik who streaked to the net,
and while being knocked down got the puck to Matt Cooke who put the puck in the net for his 9th Goal of the Year.
Brad May was physical throwing hits throughout the Game like the one
on Derek Armstrong and exchanging punches with Jeff Cowan.
Trent Klatt hit the crossbar trying to score for L.A. in the 2nd,
and Geoff Sanderson hit the post on a pass from Malik while trying to score for Vancouver in the 3rd Period.
Goalie Dan Cloutier stopped Luc Robitaille as he tried to tie the Game.

Dan Cloutier played his 300th Game in the NHL and had his 15th Career Shutout tonight.

The Canucks welcomed back Ed Jovanovski and Henrik Sedin into their lineup tonight
after coming back from injuries.  Both contributed to the team effort throughout the Game.
Henrik Sedin scored a Goal with assists by his brother Daniel and by Ed Jovanovski.
Jovanovski skated well and had another assist along with Marek Malik on the Brendan Morrison Goal.
The Canucks had a 2 Goal lead until after the Blue Jackets scored on a Goal by Brian Holzinger in the 1st Period.
Morrison was good on the penalty kill later in the 1st along with
Matt Cooke and Bryan Allen who had a short-handed shot on Goal.
Columbus came back to tie the game at 2-2 early in the 2nd on an
unassisted Goal by Rick Nash as Bryan Allen tried to defend. 
Artem Chubarov made some good plays tonight including his first Goal of the Game
where he got a pass by Sami Salo gaining the offensive zone at the Columbus blue line,
skating along the side towards the net, shooting the puck,
and beating Goalie Marc Denis.
Trevor Linden also played well shooting the puck and making plays with Chubarov.
Early into the 3rd Period, Brad May created the chance
when he shot the puck towards the net, followed the rebound, passed to Mike Keane
who then passed the puck to Chubarov giving Chubarov his second Goal of the Game.
At this point, the Canucks had another 2 Goal lead of 4-2 at 2:41 of the 3rd Period.
Columbus came back to tie the Game on Goals by Nikolai Zherdev and Todd Marchant.
The Blue Jackets took the lead with the Game winning Goal by Nikolai Zherdev at 18:05 of the 3rd
as the puck went throught Sami Salo's legs.
The Canucks pulled Goalie Johan Hedberg for the extra attacker
with about a minute to go but time ran out before they could score to tie the game.

The Game started off with good early pressure by the Canucks.
Mattias Ohlund made a nice pass early into the 1st Period to Artem Chubarov
who was in the play and creating scoring chances all night.
Wade Brookbank and Ryan VandenBussche got into a tussle and both received fighting penalties.
Jarkko Ruutu jumped into the play trying to create offense.
Brent Sopel made some nice plays too, checking Mark Bell but as Bell went down,
from a laying position he still got a shot on Hedberg who made the easy save.
Matt Cooke had a good scoring opportunity with around 12 minutes
left in the 1st Period but was stopped by Goalie Michael Leighton.
Then with a pass by Markus Naslund to Brent Sopel who shot the puck having it go to Brendan Morrison
who made no mistake to put the puck in the net for his 19th Goal of the Season.
Trevor Linden helped create traffic around the Blackhawks net when the Canucks scored.
Jim Vandermeer stirred things up with Brad May and they both received
Unsportsmanlike Penalties towards the end of the 1st Period.
Morrison continued his effort with another shot on net early in the 2nd Period.
Ohlund took an Interference Penalty at 0:35 of the 2nd giving Chicago a Powerplay.
Goalie Johan Hedberg came out of his net to play the puck and from behind the net made a bad clearing attempt.
The puck went to Eric Daze then Tyler Arnason who put the puck into the open net.
A few minutes later, Arnason scored again with assists going to Tuomo Ruutu and Deron Quint.
Chicago pulled ahead to take a 3-1 lead when Jim Vandermeer
scored a powerplay goal after Daniel Sedin took a holding penalty.
Goalie Alex Auld then came in to replace Hedberg after the Vandermeer goal.
Markus Naslund took a good shot on Goalie Michael Leighton who made the save.
Matt Cooke scored for Vancouver with help from Daniel Sedin and Geoff Sanderson.
Sanderson made a nice play to Morrison in the corner by the Blackhawks net,
back to Sanderson again who almost scored for Vancouver.
The Canucks came back to tie the Game at 12:30 of the 3rd while they
had the extra attacker on a delayed penalty call with
a nice shot by Trevor Linden for his 14th Goal of the Season assisted by Matt Cooke.
The Canucks took another penalty while Matt Cooke and Tyler Bouck were good on the penalty kill.
Ryan Kesler had a good chance to score with around 8 minutes left in the 3rd.
Artem Chubarov went to the Blackhawks net as he tried to score but the net was knocked off its supports.
The Canucks looked to have a 4 on 1 as they attacked the offensive zone
and Kesler had another shot on the Chicago net.
The Game remained a 3-3 tie after three periods and went to Overtime.
Tyler Arnason scored a hat trick for his 3rd Goal of the Game set up
by Bryan Berard giving Chicago the win at 1:44 of OT.
Hedberg made 12 saves on 15 shots and Auld made 19 saves on 20 shots as they shared the goaltending tonight.
Leighton made 32 saves for the Blackhawks on 35 shots against him.

The Canucks came back from a two goal deficit to tie the game in the 3rd Period,
earning 1 point for the tie and sending it to Overtime.
The Vancouver team has 21 points so far this season by coming back after trailing in a game.


March 18th - Game Day ReCap
Goalie: Marty Turco for Dallas Stars
Goalie: Dan Cloutier for Vancouver Canucks
Goalie: Johan Hedberg for Vancouver Canucks, Goaltender Change starting the 3rd Period
1st Period: Dallas Goal Philippe Boucher (assists Jason Arnott, Bill Guerin) 12:23 of the 1st
2nd Period: Dallas Goal Jason Arnott (assists Bill Guerin, Valeri Bure) 2:43 of the 2nd

Gritty hockey with both teams having their chances to start off the 1st Period.
Tyler Bouck had a good shot on net against Marty Turco early in the 1st,
and Brent Sopel created a scoring chance for the Canucks when he put the puck through the crease
on a pass to Geoff Sanderson.  They missed the chance as the puck went through Sanderson's legs.
Philippe Boucher scored for Dallas with assists going to Jason Arnott and Bill Guerin.
In the last 3 minutes of the 1st Period, Mike Modano and Jere Lehtinen tried to put the moves on Dan Cloutier
as Modano put the puck through the crease and skated into the net past Cloutier.
The net came off its supports and the puck stayed out.
Jason Arnott and Bill Guerin scored for the Stars in the 2nd Period.
As the Game went to the 3rd Period, the Canucks tried to gain position on the Stars
who seemed to be in the right place at the right time throughout the game.
Ryan Kesler had a great chance to score for Vancouver
about 5 minutes into the 3rd but was stopped by Goalie Marty Turco.
Goalie Dan Cloutier made 14 Saves through the first two Periods,
and Johan Hedberg switched places with Cloutier to start the last Period.
Hedberg did not allow any goals on the 4 Shots against him and neither team scored in the 3rd Period.
Dallas Stars Goalie Marty Turco had his 8th Shutout of the Season and 20th Career Shutout tonight.


March 16th - Game Day ReCap

Even though it was a close game and it was tied in the end, the Canucks fan spirit is clearly alive and well at a home game,
where the fans are heard cheering on team.
Ryan Kesler skated well with Trevor Linden as they both had one Goal and one Assist each.
Matt Cooke helped with two Assists tonight.
Andreas Johansson scored for Nashville,
then Kesler and Linden scored Goals 38 seconds apart to give Vancouver the lead later in the 1st Period.
There was no scoring in the 2nd Period.
Adam Hall tied the Game for Nashville on a rebound off the post with 22 seconds left in the 3rd sending it to Overtime.
Both Goalies Cloutier and Vokoun played well while both teams were good on offense and defense.

3rd Period: Ottawa Goal Daniel Alfredsson (unassisted) 11:00 of the 3rd

In the second Senators vs. Canucks meeting of the season since November 27, 2003,
the first Ottawa Goal was waved off as Mike Fisher seemed to interfere with Goalie Johan Hedberg.
Then in the 2nd Period, Hedberg drifted out of his net to play the puck only to have Marian Hossa score for Ottawa.
The Canucks tied the game on a Goal by Pat Kavanagh for his 1st Goal of the year,
which came under the second video review on a goal for the night, this time for a high stick, but being ruled fair play.
Johan Hedberg was good on the penalty kill clearing the puck tonight for the Canucks.
Morrison, Sanderson and Ohlund all created scoring chances.  Sami Salo and Jarkko Ruutu assisted on the Goal.
Daniel Alfredsson scored for Ottawa at 11:00 of the 3rd.

Trevor Linden was honoured tonight for becoming the all time Canucks points leader.

followed by a beauty of a Goal by Martin Rucinsky for his first as a Canuck on a 1 on 1 against Jason Smith.
Markus Naslund and Brendan Morrison assisted on the Rucinsky Goal.
Brendan Morrison scored with assists by Daniel Sedin and Martin Rucinsky
to tie the game in the 3rd Period, sending it to Overtime.
Geoff Sanderson scored the winner for the Canucks assisted by Markus Naslund.

With emotion and pressure in Vancouver after the Colorado Game and skating without Todd Bertuzzi,
the Canucks made a good effort to pull off a tie.
Both Goalies Dan Cloutier and Dwayne Roloson made some good saves.
Andrew Brunette scored first for the Wild in the 2nd Period,
and Canuck newcomer Geoff Sanderson scored his first Goal in his first Game since he was traded back to the Canucks.
Martin Rucinsky and Marc Bergevin, also newly acquired Canucks, played well helping out the team
by creating scoring chances and with defense.
Filip Kuba almost scored for Minnesota but the puck hit the post and stayed out with 1.7 seconds left in the 3rd Period.
The Game went to Overtime but remained undecided in a 1-1 tie.

Fights throughout the Game starting early in the 1st Period as the Game escalated in penalties from there.
The Canucks made several bad defensive plays and the Avalanche capitalized.
It was 5-0 for Colorado after the 1st Period.
Both Canuck Goals came by Brad May, and Trevor Linden had two assists in the 2nd Period.
The penalties continued in the Game (156 penalty minutes in total) as did the Colorado Goals.
Todd Bertuzzi was one of the physical players tonight as he punched Steve Moore who fell to the ice
and left the Game injured with 11:19 left in the 3rd Period.
Bertuzzi's hit is being reviewed by the league as he faces suspension for the incident in a Game that turned ugly.

Sean Pronger took a holding penalty, and Brendan Morrison with a great effort
almost scored another short-handed Goal for the Canucks.
Matt Cooke scored in the 2nd Period with help from both Daniel and Henrik Sedin.
Markus Naslund scored Goal number 262 as a Canuck assisted by Todd Bertuzzi and Bryan Allen.
Jarkko Ruutu and Jody Shelley both received roughing penalties for getting physical.
Sean Pronger later received another holding penalty late in the 2nd Period.  As the penalty carried over into the 3rd,
Tyler Bouck scored a short-handed Goal with a nice effort for his first Goal as a Canuck,
set up from behind Marc Denis' net by Mike Keane.
Johan Hedberg was solid in net for the Canucks as he had his 10th Career Shutout and 3rd Shutout of the Season.
Hedberg last played for the Canucks on February 28th and also had a Shutout in that Game
when they played against the St. Louis Blues.

'Burnaby Joe' Sakic scored his 14th Career Hat-trick and had one assist for the Avalanche.
Alex Tanguay also did well with two Goals and three assists.
The Game could not be decided after Regulation Time and Overtime,
ending in a 5-5 Tie with each team earning one point.
